How much does it cost to rent a desk?
The median price to rent a desk in Australia is $646 (up 2.2% QoQ) per person per month as of January 1, 2023. Though prices vary by location and number of desks required.

How do you calculate the cost of office space?
For a traditional office lease, the cost of office space is calculated based on the price per square meter and multiplied by the size of the space to give a net annual rent. For a 90 m² unit with a $900m² net rent in the CBD, the monthly rent for an office comes out to $6,750 per month (90 x $9000 / 12 + GST), on top of which are outgoings for building management, electricity, Internet, etc, which are not always fixed.
For flexible office space, the calculation is more straightforward and dependent on the number of desks your business needs. If for example, each desk in a private office costs $800 per person, the cost for a 6 person office is simply $4,800 ($800 x 6 = $4,800 per month). Flexible office rental typically includes credits towards meeting rooms, printing facilities, but for heavy users of either, there are options to have these services included.
How has Covid affected Coworking?
Businesses renting Coworking and Serviced Offices have been far more agile than those in direct leases during the pandemic. With shorter-term contracts, typically twelve months, the ability to scale up or down (or even to WFH) allows businesses to be as flexible as they need.
